In ophthalmology : AMNIO®-Eye

In dermatology : AMNIO®-Skin

They are more and more used in human dermatology for their trophic and matrix-producing effects on epithelialization.

Useful :

  • Boosts wound-healing on a limb’s distal area, which are poorly vascularized (venous ulcers).
    Vetbiobank bases its expertise on a clinical study in humans where the clinical relevance of the approach was demonstrated (Mermet I. et al. Wound repair and regeneration 2007).
  • Avoids autologous skin grafts that cause local trauma

AMNIO®-Skin is cost-efficient

  • A study has compared the difference in cost between the use of classical dressings and amniotic membranes
  • 5 €/cm² vs. 15 €/cm² for autologous or allogenic cutaneous substitutes and 0.03 € / cm² for hydrocolloid wound dressings which require replacement every 5 days

Comparison to other therapeutic strategies

  • Cryoconservation vs Freeze-drying
    Cryoconserved membranes increase healing quality in comparison to freeze-dried membranes. However, their storage and conservation present certain challenges.

NEOSERIL®

NEOSERIL® are last generation biological eyedrops.
Its activity is based mainly on the biological action of blood serum it contains.
Autologous serum is often used by veterinarians facing corneal ulcers with collagenases, resisting to other lines of treatments (Marfe, G. Journal of cellular physiology). It is producted on site by the vet, after a simple blood drawing. However, its content in growth factors and vitamins necessary for corneal epithelialization is greatly variable from one individual to another. Clinical results are therefore also greatly variable.
Vetbiobank improves efficacy and reproducibility of this treatment by producing the sera from equine umbilical cord blood collected after foaling from the discarded placenta. In human it has been shown that this neonatal serum in enriched compared to adult serum in several growth factors and vitamins. This contributes to improving clinical result (Vajpayee, R. B. 2003. Evaluation of umbilical cord serum therapy for persistent corneal epithelial defects. Br J Ophalmology). Vetbiobank is currently acquiring data in horses and already gather clinical success in last-chance treatments  (case report –  CAS CLINIQUE – NEOSERIL
NEOSERIL is presented as single use eyedrop multidosis for a 7-10 day treatment.
